Zehra Hypersonic jet
As published on the newspaper Metro yesterday, EADS or the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company is developing plans for hypersonic jet capable of reaching the velocity of 5,000kph (3,125mph), four times the speed of sound.
They say that this futuristic jet will be ready in 40 years by 2051 and from then on, you will not need in-flight entertainment since the jet will arrive from London to Tokyo in two hours, to the US east coast in one hour, to Sydney in three hours and a half and to Malaga in Spain in 20 minutes! You will probably take more time to go to the airport than flying to Istanbul for example.
But that is not the best part; the main thing for us is that the aircraft will do all this without polluting the air. It will be one of the world’s cleanest, powered by biofuels, hydrogen and oxygen and it will have zero emissions for the atmosphere. The project developed by EADS is called Zehra, standing for Zero Emission Hypersonic Transportation.
As said in the website Toyota Owners Club , “during ascent and landing, the plane will be powered by biofuel made from seaweed, before switching to a pollution-free hydrogen and oxygen mix (emitting water vapour) when it hits the boundaries of space.”
Jean Botti, innovation and technology director of the Toulouse-based company, unveiled the design at Le Bourget air show on Paris last Saturday.
Probably, one of the drawbacks will be the price reaching the quantity of £5,000 a return ticket from London to New York. Maybe, we need to start saving now for the ticket if we want to experience this.
