String gardens: a new art in gardening

Have you ever seen a string garden? This is the new fashion of gardening: the art of hanging plants. In the website String Gardens you can find a lot of examples of different hanging plants. There is also a facebook page with new pictures added everyday from this beautiful art. Its creator is Fedor van der Valk, a Dutch artist who creates stunning gardens of rope from fruit trees to small plants.

A few threads are enough to hold the plants on the roof, making them to float on the top and they do not even need pots. How this can be achieved? The ball a the bottom of the plant with the root contains enough compost to keep the plant with life. However, the composition and management of the soil that has moss is still a mystery that the creator does not reveal.  Van del Valk uses crocheting stitch to hang the plants and make them float making a kind of sphere at the bottom.

As they represent gardens, the String Gardens offer a beautiful green landscape that can be very diverse. We can find fruit trees, indoor flowering plants of all types such as orchids and even carnivorous or tomato plants.

Have a look at the website String Gardens for more pictures of this great design!
