Geoengineering: is it a good idea?
Geoengineering aims to tackle climate change by removing CO2 from the air or limiting the sunlight reaching the planet. Geoengineers create projects to tackle the effects of climate change by removing greenhouse gases from the atmospheric air of by dimming a small percentage of sun’s light. Now it seem possible to reduce or even remove completely the rate of global warming. It can bring the climate to an optimum state. But is this a good idea? Do we know that it will bring climate to an optimum state?
Before, we have already change the climate, but only by accident and now we want to reverse what it has been our fault because it is becoming catastrophic. It can give us vital time in reducing emissions since the plan of reducing emissions and all the negotiations carried out during so many years to reduce the carbon emission have not been successful. It can be an easy option to carry out, but how can we know the consequences of all this? Who should decide what geoengineering activities should be carried out, when and where?
This also can be a distraction to our concern with the environment. If these methods are carried out, probably, we would not worry in keeping our environment clean, we would not worry in recycling or in pollution since we know that there are techniques that already take care of this.
The proposal of dimming the sunlight include firing sulphate aerosols into the stratosphere to reflect sunlight back to space.
it can have effects on plant for example, since they require a certainty amount of light. Or even it can have irreversible effects on human beings.
What do you think of geoengineering? Do you agree on these methods? Tell us your opinion!
