Chelsea Flower Show 2011
The Chelsea Flower Show this year will be from Tuesday 24 till Saturday 28 May at London SW3.
The grounds of the Royal Hospital of London are transformed every year into show gardens. It has attracted many visitors since its creation in 1913 and the garden area has even increased considerably. It is considered one of the most famous in the world and it is important for observing new gardening trends and new plant varieties are launched in this event.
If you need inspiration for your small garden you should visit it since there are more than 30 gardens to show. Moreover, a new category called Artisan category with 15 small gardens have been added this year. In this category designers have to use natural and sustainable resources in an artistic way. This category is believed that together with the Urban category will bring innovation, creativity and sustainability together.
Some of the artisan gardens in the show are: the Basildon Bond Garden, the Hae-woo-so, of Korean inspiration or the beautifully designed as a poet’s retreat Literary Garden.
The digging for the show is beginning now!
However, if you would like to reserve for this year, maybe you can try better luck for 2012 by start reserving now sine the event is already sold out. Otherwise you can have to spend five-times their face value and buy the tickets for only £250… Why are they sold out so soon? One of the main reasons is the lack of space. The place has only 11 acres and receives 157,000 visitors. As you can see the space for such a wonderful event is very restricted and no doubt they are sold out so quickly. That is also why, the selling of plants has been banned years ago and it is only possible to buy them the final day, where you can bring some of the newest trends to your garden.
Some of the highlights this year are:
- The Green Poem Garden, based on the mountains capes of Nagasaki in Japan.
- The Monaco Garden, representing the landscape and architecture of Monaco.
- The Homebase Garden, featuring naturalistic shapes and textures of Cornwall.
- The Skyshades Garden, shows how beautiful an office garden can be using eco-friendly materials and native plantings to encourage wildlife.
If you go let us know your experience! Some of us may have to conform ourselves by watching the pictures and hope to have better luck next year!
